2001 Audi A6 2.8. It sat in a garage for nearly six years and was just recently brought back to life. In for a complete detail today. And it just happens to be my dad’s car! Needless to say, I’m excited about this one.

Let us know how it turns out and what your process is, if you don’t mind!
I did a maintenance wash on my dad’s truck today. Just a wash and topped up with BF midnight sun spray wax and natty’s blue paste oon the tailgate
I need to do a full correction on it sometime soon. The tailgate is corrected about 90% and the hood about 65% but the rest hasn’t been polished at all.
I also need to do the trim again. The trim on these Avalanches is a PIA

This is the car that made me into an enthusiast!
My grandpa owned one of these, it must’ve been 2004 because I was about 5. He let me sit on his lap and steer as we came up to our vacation place on lake Michigan, and it was the most thrilling memory I have, also the first car memory. Thanks to that man, I am now a Audi/Porsche savant!

Haha that is awesome! I was never a fan of this car until recently. Now I’m kinda ashamed to admit that I like it.

No shame in being a German luxury fan, no matter their credibility!

Damn, that Avalanche looks great! I did a multi step process on the paint. A bit of a read, but if you’re interested, read on!
I started with Multi Solv- this stuff is made to get rid of road paint, tar, whatever else is stuck to paint that can’t be removed otherwise. After that, I clayed the entire car top to bottom, front to back, glass included. The clear coat on the hood was in really rough shape because the car sat for so long. So many surface scratches you wouldn’t believe it. I started with a heavy compound called “Big Red” which cuts down the clear coat and leaves the paint looking really dull. Kinda scary at first but more steps are involved to bring the paint back to life. After the Big Red, I did a correction cream, a polish compound then a wax/sealant combo. The hood looks brand new. That was really the worst/hardest part of paint work.
On the rest of the car I just did the three step process of correction cream, polish compound then wax/sealant. The car looks black in my picture above but is a dark blue. The paint has depth it hasn’t had since it came out of the factory. Words and pictures can’t describe how well it turned out. My dad was beyond thrilled and therefore I am as well! This was one of the most challenging and rewarding paint details that I’ve ever done.

That’s awesome! Never heard of big red. My go to compounds lately have been Sonax Cutmax and Poorboy’s Master Cut, been getting really good cut from both. The Master Cut is especially good at cutting through haze.
For polishes I’ve been using CG V36, and V38, as well as Sonax EX 04-06 and getting pretty good results. Finishing down on my super soft red Acura paint is a major PIA though.
I’d love to try out some of the Menzerna, 3D HD, andMcKee’s 37 abrasives, but I'm just a 17yr old enthusiast so I can't afford all the fun stuff lol
